WHAT IS   NAVLE

The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, known as NAVLE, is an examination that consists of three steps, which are required for anyone who wants to practice veterinary medicine in the United States and Canada.
It is not as simple as it sounds or looks, unlike in Pakistan, where only foreign graduates have to give licensing exams while the rest of us only need to do an internship in our last semester to obtain a veterinary license. In North America (US and Canada), even the American/Canadian graduates have to pass these exams. There are unseen benefits to this. It ensures a uniform system of base-level education before starting residency or even the job as an Associate veterinarian. For example, in Pakistan, if you have to pursue medicine, you just take the Mphil admission test for that particular discipline, the same goes for surgery. NAVLE does not follow that, as they want the physicians to have some basic knowledge of all the fields. So all ECFVG/NAVLE exams will have questions from all subjects irrespective of whether you want to pursue medicine, surgery or dentistry or whatever. This exam makes sure the veterinarians are at a certain level of competency in their knowledge. Imagine all exams of different fields/species combined and creating just one exam out of them; that's NAVLE.
